Our ecological services

Usually the first step for any project. We visit the site, identify the ecological constraints and set out any mitigation you may need. If further surveys are required, we’ll tell you which ones and when in the year they can be done.

Many species are protected by UK law, and surveys are often needed to support a planning application or licence. Our ecologists hold licences for bats, dormice, great crested newts and water voles, and we also survey for badger, otter and birds. Where a licence is needed, we can prepare the application and manage it through to completion.

We identify and assess the likely effects of your project on habitats and species, carry out the surveys needed to support it, and recommend proportionate mitigation. We work on sites of any size, from single plots to linear infrastructure, renewable energy and habitat restoration schemes.

Our experienced Ecological Clerks of Works can be on site throughout your project. We carry out checks before works start, advise your team on the ground and help you stay compliant with licences and planning conditions. We are PTS-qualified for work on the railway.

Our team includes ecologists qualified in rope access, tree climbing and aerial rescue, and confined space entry, so we can survey bridges, rock faces, tree canopies, culverts and other places that are hard to reach. We also carry out specialist ornithology, botany and invertebrate surveys. If your job needs a particular skill set, get in touch and we’ll talk it through.
